The Zigzags (Class 1)

Welcome to the Zigzags Class page. 

Active learning is at the heart of how we learn in this class. The school day starts at 8.50 am and the children are encouraged to be independent by organising their own belongings. The children register with Miss Allured and Mrs Sullivan and then go into the hall for a whole school assembly or Collective Worship. 

Miss Allured and Mrs Sullivan support children's learning through a well planned range of exciting learning experiences. 

The children are taught phonics and early reading using the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds validated phonics programme where children learn to blend sounds to read decodable books. Phonics is taught daily as being able to read and write opens up all other learning for the children. 

At about 10.15am each day the children have a snack time where they are offered a piece of fruit and milk (Milk is provided free until the child 5th birthday but can be purchased after this through Cool Milk). Lunch is at 11.55am and the children can order a school meal cooked on site or bring a healthy packed lunch from home. 

In the morning learning experiences are based around literacy and mathematics.  Learning in the afternoon is based on areas such as Understanding The World  and Expressive Arts and Design. 

 At 3.30pm we dismiss the children onto the school playground where parents will be waiting. 

 Please can the children bring their reading books in daily in their bags. The children will also need a named water bottle in school each day. They will also need PE kits on a Monday. Thank you.
